Pedestrian hospitalized after being hit by car in Fresno. Street closed for investigation

A portion of Belmont Avenue was closed Friday morning as police investigated a crash involving a car and pedestrian.

Police said a woman was pushing a shopping cart on Belmont Avenue at Palm Avenue around 6 a.m. when she was hit by a car. Police in an update Friday afternoon said the victim died later at the hospital.

The driver who struck the woman remained at the scene, according to police.

It was unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, police said.

Belmont was closed from Wilson to Palm avenues for several hours for the investigation.
