Hit-and-Run Accident Injured a 12-year-old
Yuba City 12-year-old injured in hit-and-run crash
YUBA CITY, Calif. —A 12-year-old is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle that drove away afterward in Yuba City on Wednesday, officials said.
The hit-and-run happened around 12:25 p.m. on C Street, the Yuba City Police Department said on Thursday. Officers received a call of a victim lying in the roadway after they were hit by an unknown vehicle.
Family said 12-year-old Kavon was leaving a relative’s house at the time of the collision and suffered a broken back, hip, ribs and ankle among other injuries.
“It’s not ok to leave anybody in the road, but for you to hit a kid and not stop — and it be this severe to where my son’s back got broke and he had to have surgery – that’s wrong,” said Nicole Hedrick, Kavon’s mother.
Hedrick said her son was meeting his cousin for lunch Wednesday and that he was hit as he was crossing the street, near the Gauche Aquatic Park.
“They share locations and she pinged his phone, and she pulled up and he’s in the middle of the road,” she said. “It’s very traumatizing to our whole family.”
